Bishops Stortford

The ancient market town of Bishop's Stortford is superbly situated in rural Hertfordshire , on the border with the county of Essex . It is a modern lively town with a long and varied history. There is much to see in the town - a rich collection of 16th and 17th century buildings in the centre including several of the old inns made famous when the town was an important staging post on the route between London and both Newmarket and Cambridge . The River Stort running through the town centre provides leisurely activities and is popular with walkers, anglers and visiting narrowboats.

Situated between London and Cambridge, Bishop's Stortford is an excellent base from which to easily explore the area. The superb road and rail links make access to all areas of Great Britain easy.

Being close to London Stansted Airport - 7 miles away means that many visitors have discovered the charms of this typical English town and the delights of the surrounding countryside. A comprehensive Accommodation Guide can be obtained from Bishop’s Stortford Tourist Information Centre covering Bishop’s Stortford, Stansted Airport and the surrounding area.
