Abergwesyn Common, Mid Wales
Abergwesyn Common is an extensive upland of 6,677ha situated in the heart of the Cambrian Mountains in Wales. It is owned by the National Trust. Large areas of the deep peat and blanket bog are in poor condition due to previous overgrazing and bruning. Despite this, the area remains a valuable natural habitat and is home to many species, including the red kite and the peregrine falcon. The National Trust are now actively trying to restore the peatlands by controlling purple moor grass and by establishing soil and vegetation again in the eroded areas. A variety of archeological features can be found in Abergwesyn Common, including more then 50 prehistoric cairns.
