Nicholas Winton
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Hampstead, London
Born on 19th of May 1909
Died on 1st of July 2015
British hero of the week July 5th 2015

The life of Nicholas Winton (born Nicholas Wertheim) was very long (he lived to 106), very full, and sometimes surprising – from a wealthy background and a banker and stockbroker, he was a strong socialist, for example. Winton will be remembered for his actions in the Kindertransport programme that saved thousands of Jewish children from the Nazis – Winton is personally credited with saving 669Czech children, hectoring Dutch officials, forging British documents, arranging homes and financial guarantees... He was – very belatedly – knighted in 2002 for his work.
