Born 1761. Died 1832 - Scottish geologist.
Studied at Cambridge and Edinburgh. Wrote several papers on the chemical composition of strata. Travelled throughout in Europe to examine geological formations. Was President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Produced a machine to demonstrate the folding of geological strata.
