Small 17th Century Manor House incorporating parts of a medieval house which was home to George Washington's direct ancestors and from where the surname Washington began. Before settling here in 1180 the Washingtons were called Hartburn, following the custom of the time they changed their name to Washington, taking it from the land on which they lived. This little oasis in the heart of modern Washington is an absolute delight and well worth a visit.
