Born 1829 Nottingham. Died 1912 London Founder and General of the Salvation Army

In 1865 he and his wife Catherine opened the Christian Revival Society in East End of London offering repentance and salvation to the poorest and most needy. In 1878 it was renamed the Salvation Army and is now known world-wide for it’s humanitarian aid. William Booth travelled to 58 countries and colonies holding salvation meetings, and published his book In Darkest England and The Way Out in 1890.
