Born 1902 - Died 1945 Tientsin, China - Scottish athlete and missionary.

Educated at Edinburgh University. Was favourite to win 100 metres in 1924 Olympics but refused to participate in heats because they were run on a Sunday. Unexpectedly won the 400 metres in a world record time. Worked in China as a missionary. Interned by the Japanese during WWII. Died of a brain tumour just before the war ended.
