Died on 13rd of July 1967

Simpson won cycling medals at the 1956 Olympics and the 1958 Empire and Commonwealth Games before turning professional with a French team a year later. The first British cyclist to wear the famous yellow jersey in the Tour de France, during the 1962 event, he died in the 1967 race during the gruelling climb of Mont Ventoux. His heart failure was linked to traces of amphetamines found in the post-mortem.
