Born 1901. Died 1985 - English botanist.
Educated at Clare College, Cambridge. Pioneered British pollen analysis. Made contributions to the science of radiocarbon dating. His best known publication was The History of the British Flora (1956). Elected FRS in 1945 and knighted in 1970.
