Boutique Hotels in Britain
Why do so many of us now seek out boutique hotels? Some of us crave the individuality, the quirkiness even, that smaller places can offer. We like our names to be remembered without having to pay £500 a night, and with maybe at most 50 rooms (one part of one definition of the genre) we stand more chance of that happening in a boutique hotel than a larger establishment. Others love the style that they can offer, where design and decor can still surprise and delight – interesting artworks displayed, creative input evident down to the very bedclothes in which we will sleep.
Whether travelling on business or for pleasure we choose boutique hotels because we want our stay to be memorable, not just another night in another efficient corporate hotel forgotten the day after. Whether modern and proud of it or cosily classic, boutique hotels also tend to be ahead of the curve with technology and likely to have the comforts and conveniences we have invested in at home – we’d be shocked not to find wi-fi. And the bar where there is one will know how to make a Martini, have interesting beer, and be peopled by more linen jackets than polyester suits.
