Born 1854 . Died 1900 Paris - Irish playwright, poet, essayist & novelist

Studied at Trinity College, Dublin and Magdalen College, Oxford. First poetry published in 1881. Married Constance Lloyd in 1884 and had two sons. Wrote one novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, children’s fairy stories, essays and plays including The Importance of Being Earnest. Imprisioned for homosexuality in 1895. Last years spent wandering on the Continent.
