Newcastle Airport is situated eight miles from the City Centre and has good links with Bus, Coach, Taxi, and Rail, the Metro System travels direct into the Airport. For passengers wishing to drive the Airport is well signposted, journey along the A1 then join the A696 and follow the signs into the Airport. On arrival there is a choice of parking either long or Short Stay. For Disabled passengers there are specially adapted toilets, dedicated parking spaces that also have Assistance Points where help may be requested via telephones that link into the Information Desk. Since the opening of Newcastle Airport in 1935 many changes have taken place from those early days, not least in passenger numbers which rose to over five million in 2007. The facilities on offer are varied from Check In Desks, or there is always the Check In Kiosks available where Passengers check in themselves and have the option of choosing their own seat, then drop their cases at the Fast Baggage Drop, of course for some passengers there is the option of Checking In On Line. Porters and Trolleys are available, together with ATM machines accepting all major Debit and Credit Cards. For tired feet there is a choice of Lounges including Executive Lounges where drinks, snacks and some business facilities are also on offer. The Bars, Restaurants and Cafes have a tempting array and most have a children’s menu and high chairs also available. For the last minute newspaper, sunglasses or flip flops there are shops a plenty and of course the Tax and Duty Free outlets have spirits, perfumes and gifts. The Beauty Salon will administer a massage, facial or manicure, and Gamesgrid and Play Area will amuse young flyers, Baby Changing Facilities are also on hand for the all important nappy change.
