Warlingham is an attractive village positioned in the county of Surrey and is home to just under eight thousand people. It's set close to the busy town of Croydon, and just a few miles from the throbbing metropolis of London, and yet is surrounded by rich beautiful countryside, woodland, gentle hills, and the North Downs. It has an interesting history which dates as far back in time as the Anglo Saxons who first settled here. The attractive triangular shaped Village Green is the heart of the village, and it's where most of the shops and restaurants can be found. At one stage in centuries past it was on an important Coaching Route, a legacy of which remains with the ancient Coaching Inns which continue to welcome travellers and visitors. A stroll around the village will uncover a picturesque flint church that is dedicated to All Saints and has stood since the 13th Century, and attractive houses and cottages dotted about some of which were built in the 17th and 18th Centuries. Peace is unbroken today, unlike the heart stopping spectacle of the Dog Fights that were fought in the skies above the village during the Battle of Britain in WWII.
