Beaconsfield is a picturesque market town set in the Chiltern Hills, 25miles northwest of London with a predominantly commuter population of about 12,000. The Old Town grew up to serve coaching traffic en route to Oxford and still has many coaching inns today. The New Town is a mile away and was created when the railway first arrived in the early 20th century. The town has superb transport links not only by rail but also with the M40 close by and airports at Luton and Heathrow less than an hours drive. There is much accommodation to suit all budgets too and a thriving retail sector with a market in the Old Town on Tuesdays and a monthly farmers market. The town is a good tourism base, with Windsor Castle, Legoland and Thorpe Park all within 15 miles and it is a popular destination for film and TV locations! There is much history here, Beaconsfield is first documented in 1185, in reference to the name deriving from “clearing in the beeches” and the annual fair has been held in May for over 735years. The world’s oldest model village is here, Bekonscot, open to visitors from February to December each year. A mile from the town is The Royal Standard of England, which is reported to be the oldest Free House in England.
