Hexworthy is a tiny village that’s almost a secret in the heart of Dartmoor in Devon. The wild beautiful countryside has a wealth of wildlife to discover. A short walk to Dartmeet unveils an ancient Clapper bridge, and is where east meets west of two branches of the River Dart. The stunning scenery has artists reaching for another brush, and photographers holding their breath. For a link back into history Grimpound Bronze Age Settlement conjures thoughts of centuries past, if that’s not enough take a look at Merrivale Prehistoric site, where the stream flows through ancient Standing Stones that have been weathered by Dartmoor winds through time. Perhaps a tour around Buckfast Abbey set in delightful surroundings will share many secrets, and is an amazing destination to discover, from the granite cross marking the start of the route across Dartmoor known as the Abbey Way, and the Book shop where at the rear of the shop intriguing exhibits are displayed, or maybe the items produced in various Monasteries and Convents will tempt…. Or how about Buckfast Butterfly and Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary which is an unforgettable experience where Otters may be seen under water, and brightly coloured Butterflies enhance their Tropical surroundings.
