Horton-cum-Studley is a small village in the Cherwell District of Oxfordshire, 7.4 miles away from the city of Oxford. The village of Horton is one of the seven towns of an area of low lying land called Otmoor, and Studley, with its Priory, only became attached to it later. The Old Weir is the oldest house in Horton-cum-Studley, and reputedly in Oxfordshire, dated to about 1250. Studley Priory was built in 1176 as the Church of St Mary for holy women of the Benedictine order. During the Second World War Studley Priory was used as a hostel for evacuated London BBC staff. The estate was sold and broken up in 1954 when the house and gardens were purchased and established as the present hotel. Other places to eat and drink in the village include the 18th century Otmoor Lodge Hotel on Horton Hill. Warren Farm Centre in Horton-cum-Studley is part of the West Oxfordshire College and sited on a commercial working farm. It was set up to provide education and training in agriculture and horticulture. The Victorian parish church of St. Barnabas stands on the site of the original Horton Chapel. Leisure facilities include The Studley Wood Golf Club, located on The Straight Mile.
