Based in the Billesley Common area of Birmingham, Moseley was established in 1873 as Moseley Football Club (the distinctions between the rugby code and association code were still being established back in those days).
The golden era for Moseley was the 1960s and 1970s, during which time the club's fixture list included the top names in British Rugby. Moseley reached the RFU knockout cup final three times, losing twice before sharing the trophy in 1982 with Gloucester. Moseley picked up memorable wins against Fiji and the Barbarians during this period. The success carried on through the eighties but at the beginning of the nineties Moseley were relegated, signalling the end of an era.
In the mid-1990s the club attempted to push itself back to the top but ended up over-stretching itself. For 125 years the team had played at the Reddings but had to sell its prestigious ground after running into financial problems due to trying to keep pace with the professional era.
In 2002 things got worse when Moseley was relegated to National Division Two but this proved to be a fairly brief spell. In 2006 the team won promotion back to National Division One, the second tier of English Rugby.
