Townsford Mill, which straddles the River Colne, dates back to 1740 and was originally water powered, but eventually gave way to steam. It was one of the first Courtauld´s mills and produced the silk for Queen Victoria´s mourning gowns. It now houses 90 antiques and collectables dealers showing their wares in 5000 sq.ft spread over two floors of the mill.

Some episodes of the TV programme Lovejoy were also filmed at the mill. It is located at the bottom of Halstead's main shopping street, a tradition style High Street with many interesting shops.

The ground floor of the mill also houses Dickens Restaurant and Cafe Bar, so why not make it a day out to remember with great food and drink in the beautiful surroundings of Townsford Mill.
