Outdoor activities are in abundance - walking amongst scenic hills; along the Wye Valley Walk and around the Elan Valley Lakes; bird watching and fishing on the River Wye. The Gilfach Nature Reserve is only 4 miles north of Rhayader and has 200 acres of dramatic countryside with a tumbling river; otters; polecats and a restored Welsh Longhouse. Cycle along miles of bridleways and quiet lanes and the Elan Valley Trail is a spectacular trail for mountain bikes. The road through the Elan Valley; with views of the dams; connects with the spectacular old mountain road to Aberystwyth and the beautiful coastline of Cardigan Bay; a truly breathtaking drive and not to be missed.
