Alston, a delightful market town and the highest in Britain, is about 15 miles away as are the large selection of shops in Penrith, from where a short drive leads visitors to the famous Rheged Centre with its Imax cinema, exclusive shops and cafés selling Lakeland produce. Glorious Ullswater's lakeside walks and steam boat trips, and the northern lakes and fells are all also easily accessible. Pub ½ mile, shop 4 miles.
