The Union Inn started in 1855. The lovely Green-and-white exterior is made even lovelier by climbing plants and hanging baskets, and the promise of the outside is more than fulfilled within, where the bar has a very appealing old-world look. The inn has been run since October 2006 by Richard and Veronica, and they have greatly enhanced the claims of the inn to be one of the best eating places for miles around. The restaurant has 28 covers, but diners can eat anywhere in the inn, but booking is definitely recommended. Most of the meat comes from locally sources and cut to order by Richard who used to be first rate butcher, and steak with all the classic trimmings is a perennial favourite. Other signature dishes are home made hand-baked quiches and pies; there are plenty of options for fish-eaters and vegetarians, and delicious ice creams and sorbets to round things off in style. There's plenty of history to discover and beautiful countryside to explore and with its three guest rooms, all en suite, one with a four-poster, the Union is a very pleasant, comfy base for walking, touring or just relaxing. This is a dog friendly pub
