The development of the silk industry in Macclesfield, which links it to the Far East, is told through an award winning audio visual programme, exhibitions, models, silk textiles and fashions. The museum is housed within a former Sunday school built in 1814 to provide education for the children who worked in the silk mills.

At nearby Paradise Mill, the location of 26 hard jacquard silk looms in their original location, the intricate processes involved in the hand loom weaving are explained and demonstrated.

Shop selling silk and novelties. Café. Lively education service. Groups welcome by arrangement.
