6th of August - Transfiguration Day
6th of August is the 218th day of the year
Transfiguration Day:
The Feast of the Transfiguration commemorates one of the most significant moments in the life of Jesus, according to three of the gospels: this was when atop a mountain he begins to shine, has Elijah and Moses appear before him, and is addressed as ‘son’ by a voice from on high. It is regarded as a miracle, and one of the five great milestones in the life of Christ, seen through this moment to be symbolically linking heaven and earth. August 6th was chosen for the feast day in 1456 as it was on that date that news arrived in Rome of the defeat of the Ottoman army at Belgrade, an event of vital importance to Christian Europe.
