25th of April - St Marks Day
25th of April is the 115th day of the year
St Marks Day:
St Mark the Evangelist has no particularly close traditional tie with Britain, and unlike in Venice his feast day here is not marked by any special celebrations, nor ever apparently was. The very early hours of his day, however, were for many centuries used for rather spooky customs: girls had various ways of divining their future husband around and just after midnight between the 24th and 25th; and if you wished to know who in your village or neighbourhood was destined to die in the coming year you would make your way to the local churchyard. There you’d watch a ghostly procession make its way into the building: the spectres of those who did not come back out were doomed, those who would suffer serious illness emerging after a gap
