8th of March - International Women's Day

8th of March is the 67th day of the year

International Women's Day:
International Women’s Day now takes place on March 8th, the UN sanctioning the date in 1977 as a day to mark campaigns for women’s rights, and to emphasize women’s achievements in all fields. But before that the day had been rather peripatetic: in 1909 in the USA February 28th was declared National Women’s Day by the American Socialist Party; in 1911 International Woman’s Day was held on March 18th, the product of European socialist groups. Then in 1917 demonstrations on what by the Julian calendar was February 23rd in Russia (March 8th by the Gregorian) demonstrations on and marking International Women’s Day sparked the February Revolution in St Petersburg. In contemporary times the day has been built around a theme, such as the 2010 celebration which highlighted the horrors and hardships women refugees around the world have to face.
