1st of March - St Davids Day

1st of March is the 60th day of the year

St Davids Day:
March 1st was chosen to mark St David’s Day as the patron saint of Wales is said to have died on that day in 589, though there is much dispute even about that year (612 being the latest on offer) just as there is about the year of his birth (anytime between 462 and 512). Leeks are worn by patriotic Welsh people on St David’s Day as the saint had an army of his countrymen wear them in their hats when going into one battle against the Saxons, as a way of distinguishing friend from foe. Friction between England and Wales is not unknown today, and in the past the English marked the day by hanging Welshmen in effigy, complete with leek. And we wonder why they love to give us a kicking at rugby.
