i was against the idea of eating at clowns when i was first told that i would be reviewing it with ben, and i didnt hold out much hope when the waitress took my coat and handed me the menu quicker that an olympic sprinter. Starting off with the soup of the day, (tomato), i was genuinely shocked at the amazing quality of this fresh, red, vibrant soup that was bursting with flavour. Moving on i decided to go with the traditional steak (medium) for my mains. This was by far and away the best steak that you could have anywhere in essex, to say it was incredible still wouldnt do it justice. The wedges that accompanied it were beautifully spiced and made for a match made in heaven. Finishing off with a hot chocolate fondant that i will descibe in one word, sexy, it oozed greatness and was so delicious you wanted to fall in love with the chef without even meeting him. The food was out of this world and was only let down by the sub-standard waitressing, but please do not let that deter you from trying what in my opinion is the best food in east anglia. service 5.5/10 food 10/10 ( if i could give chef Moore, any higher i would!!!)

a cosy little restaurant with a real kids theme to it, that sits nicely on the high street. The service was decent at best but at least prompt, and the menu offered a wide selection of appertisers and looked very colourful. I was offered my own choice of seat which made a nice change, and quickly ordered a half bottle of red. The restaurant was busy but not over packed and the waiting staff looked busy but always polite. I ordered the garlic mushrooms for my starters and feared the worst when i read about the salad garnish. However to my suprise the mushrooms were cooked to perfection with a great hint of garlic that enhanced but didnt overpower the mushrooms, and the rocket salad, oozed with quality and was so well dressed i forgot i was eating in colchester and thought id drifted down the A12 to some posh west london joint. Next came the main coursea and i ordered the beef wellington (chefs special). From the moment my knife cracked the puff pastry i knew i was in for a treat with the beef melting in my mouth and the sautee potatoes comlimenting it, this was easily the best main course i had eaten this side of essex. A lovely amaretti liquer moose (which is out of this world, it has to be tasted to be believed) finished off an incredible meal, and the complimentary cappacino went down a treat. service 7.5/10 food 10/10 easily 5 star quality
