I have a friend who lives just up the street from this place who says that he and his father were the very first customers back in the 1950’s. I’ve visited the pub while on holiday for at least 3 years running. It is bright and airy and clean. I’ve found the staff and clientele to be friendly and helpful. There is a family-style atmosphere to the place which is welcoming. The beer and ales are good and there are plenty of varieties to choose from. You’ll give it a try when you’re next in the neighborhood, if I have my way.

What a pleasant surprise I received upon visiting this establishment. Set in the back-drop of a rough council estate, opposite a graveyard, and next to a college, my expectations were not high, but upon opening the door, the freindly welcoming atmosphere was most surprising. The charm and wit of landlord Jeff Abbott could be likened to that off Amos Brierly and Henry Wilkes at the Woolpack. The regulars are warm and friendly people who enjoy a relaxing game of darts, pool or euchre. I returned again on the Sunday to experience the locally reknowned "Meat Raffle" and extremely enjoyed the experience. Friday night is music night, with many local top acts perform. The Black Dog Band were not to my taste, but the lead singer did have a cheeky smile. I'd fully recommend this establishment to anyone.

the mag arms is fast becoming the place to be seen on a saturday night, using his charm and ready wit landlord geoff abbot has encapsulated all the ingrediants required for a fantastic night out. From free jukebox on a friday to crabsticks and a meat raffle on sunday afternoon, geoff has all his customers hooked on what new entertainment he has up his sleeve. He tells me that new for 2006 there will a pub quiz, free football on terrestrial channels being shown and a new karoke format he's calling " I'm the DJ" were loyal customers can bring in there tapes for everyone to sing along to. So there you have it apart from fine wine, beer and a excellant atmosphere the magdalen arms is your "one stop entertainment centre".
