We arrived around lunchtime on Sunday 14 Feb for the overnight Valentine's package. My girlfriend's credit card was checked, called 'pre-authorisation', by the gentleman at reception prior to booking in, who also told us that we were booked in for dinner at 8:00pm that evening. I thought that was a bit late but we decided we could extend our walk and maybe get a drink before dinner. Room 8 was very clean and neat, noticed an awful noise which ran for about 20 nseconds and then and switched off for about 5 seconds continuously, thought is was maybe someone in another room taking a bath or something. After a lovely walk around Tetbury and Westonbirt Arboretum we came back to take a bath before dinner. I had to go to the reception again and ask for our complimentary bottle of champagne. The flutes (champagnes glasses) were greasy on the outside. When washing them in the basin, both cold and hot taps were loose and twisted with opening the tap. I decided to check what else was wrong and found that the towel rail was also loose and the shower gel was empty alongside the full hair shampoo container attached to the tiled wall in the bath. At our designated dinner time I was unable to order both my preferred courses on the Valentine's menu for starters and main course as they were out of salmon and steaks. Very disappointed the manageress offered me anything from the normal menu and I settled for the offered rack of ribs which wasn't on any menu. Very nicely done and tasty. At 10:30 pm the noise in the room, which sounded like someone drilling next door was unbearable so I telephoned reception and the manageress advised me that it was the boiler and would switch off at 11pm. At 12:30 it was still drilling away in my head, but I managed to fall asleep by then. The next morning after a lovely breakfast we were presented with a bill with items on it that we had not had. These were then duly desucted from our bill and my girlfrend presented her credit card to pay. It was declined by the bank, so I paid on my card. My girlfriend has telephoned her bank to be informed that her card was stopped due to dodgy activity on her card yesterday and today but after the hotel had already taken the fee for the Valentine's special. So it turns out now that we have both paid for the same evening with the hotel taking twice as much as they are owed. Her call to the hotel manageress, Vivienne, was received with an unwelcome "We are really busy, can I have your number and I'll call you back 'luv'". This has not gone down too well for both of us, I just hope one of us gets our money back.

What a shame there was no feedback to fill in. Our reservation was there, we booked using our Tesco Clubcard Vouchers. Brilliant! Lovely room, newly reburished bathroom. Breakfasts excellent, staff very welcoming. However room 8 which we stayed in seems to be near the boiler room and was noisy all night! So would not recommend that particular room. Everything else great though!

Good Points: the decor, location, and friendliness of staff General review: Unfortunately your on line booking reservation never made it as far as the hotel. By total luck there was one spare room, or else we would not have had a room.

On arrival we had a warm welcome from the bright and cheerful staff. However, we were told that the restaurant was unavailable that evening. We were offered a reserved table in the "non-smoking" Snug Bar. At the appointed time the snug bar was full and we had to sit in the normal bar for our meal. This was fine except that my vegetables did not arrive with the rest of the meal. I had to ask for them later. The room,in a separate block, was OK except that the TV didn't work and the shower door wouldn't shut properly. On the second morning we were told that we had only booked for one day and would have to leave. Fortunately we were able to produce our reservation print-out which clearly said that we were booked for two nights. Breakfast on the second morning was interesting. My coffee was made by putting ground coffee (not instant coffee) in the bottom of a cup and filling it up with boiling water. After I had rejected it the next attempt came from a thermos jug and was stone cold. The third attempt was better. This could be a nice Inn but there seems to be some serious staff training issues to be addressed before I would recommend it. They just don't have their organisation and paperwork under control.
