Educated at St John’s College, Oxford. First novel was Hurry on Down (1953). Later novels include The Young Visitors (1965), Where The Rivers Meet (1988) and the children’s book Lizzie’s Floating Shop (1974). Also writes poetry, plays and edits literary magazines.
