Leading practical architect in the Gothic Revival. His work included the Martys Memorial at Oxford, St Georgeís at Doncaster, Albert Memorial, St Pancras Station, Glasgow University, the chapels of Exeter and St Johnís College, Oxford. Inspired the establishment of the Society for Protection of Ancient Buildings in 1877. Buried in Westminster Abbey.
