Leading practical architect in the Gothic Revival. His work included the Martys Memorial at Oxford, St George’s at Doncaster, Albert Memorial, St Pancras Station, Glasgow University, the chapels of Exeter and St John’s College, Oxford. Inspired the establishment of the Society for Protection of Ancient Buildings in 1877. Buried in Westminster Abbey.
