Born 1938 - English trade union leader.

Began in mining at age of 18. Joined the Young Communist League in 1955 and the Labour Party in 1966. Became National President of National Union of Mineworkers in 1982. Warned of major pit closures, led them into a national strike in 1984. Formed own Socialist Labour Party in 1996.
