Born 1879. Died 1916 - Irish writer, educationist and nationalist.

Joined Gaelic League in 1895, edited its journal. Founded a bi-lingual school in 1908. Wrote poems, short stories and plays in English and Irish. Joined the Irish Republican Brotherhood in 1915. Was Commander-in-Chief of the insurgents during the Easter Rising in 1916. He was later arrested, court-martialled and shot.
