Studied painting before appearing as an extra in Perfect Strangers (1945). Appeared in television in Ivanhoe (1957), The Alaskans (1959-60) and The Saint (1962-68). Played title role in seven James Bond films including Live and Let Die (1973) and A View to a Kill (1985). Goodwill ambassador for UNICEF. Awarded CBE in 1999.
