Born 1580. Died 1627 - English dramatist.

Son of a bricklayer. Early works include A Mad World, My Masters (1608) and The Roaring Girl (written with Thomas Dekker). Employed to write the Lord Mayor’s pageant on a number of occasions. Appointed city chronologer in 1620. Three plays published posthumously were The Changeling, The Spanish Gypsy and Women Beware Women; considered to be his best writing.
