Scottish writer & biographer of Dr Johnson



A Scottish lawyer, diarist and author, best known for his biography of Samuel Johnson, Life of Johnson, published in 1791. He travelled Europe extensively and his other works include Dorando, a Spanish Tale (1767), Account of Corsica (1768), A Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides (1785). A great many journals lay undiscovered until the 1920s, and are now held at Yale University.
