David Davies
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Barry, South Wales
Born on 3rd of March 1985

Back in 1999, Welshman David Davies was selected to swim for the Welsh U15 team and that marked the start of his rapid rise in the sport. He was picked for the British junior team in 2001 and then competed at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Spain. It was there that he won the silver in the 200m discipline and a second silver medal as part of the 4X200m Freestyle Team.

In 2002 Davies was British Short Course Champion for the 1500m and for the first time ever he managed to qualify for a place on the British Senior Team competing at the European Short Course Championships in Germany. Davies won silver in the 1500m Freestyle. In the same year, this time at the European Short Course Championships in Austria, he finished in 2nd place in the 1500m freestyle and won a bronze medal as part of the 4X200m Freestyle Team.

2002 was also the year when, still aged only 17, Davies swam for Wales at the Manchester Commonwealth Games. He took a staggering 50 seconds off his previous personal best in the 1500m Freestyle event. Even though he finished back in 6th place his mature performance proved that he had Olympic medal winning potential, a potential he was soon to realise at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games two years later. David Davies won bronze in the 1500m freestyle, Britain's second medal in the swimming pool at that Athens.

Since his success at the Athens Olympics in 2004, he has claimed many medals at World and European Championship level. In 2005 Davies won a bronze medal in the World Championships 1500m freestyle, a result he bettered by securing a 1500m freestyle silver medal in the 2005 European Short Course Championships.

His first taste of gold came at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in the 1500m discipline. He followed this with a bronze medal in the 400m freestyle. At the 2007 World Championships, again in Melbourne, took the 1500m freestyle bronze medal.
David Davies was also selected to compete for Team GB in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
