After his education at Manchester Grammar School and Manchester University, Sieff working closely with his brother-in-law Simon Marks was one of the forces that built Marks & Spencer into a major national company, including chairing it between 1964 and 1967. He was also a leading Zionist with close links to Chaim Weizmann. In 1966 he was given a life peerage.
