John Pye studied at Aberystwyth and at Bedford College, London, before beginning an academic career at KCL. He was appointed to a professorship in the zoology department of Queen Mary College, London in 1973, and is now Emeritus Professor in the same institution. His area of specialism is the use of ultrasound by animals to communicate and to navigate.
