BOOK LONG SUTTON HOTELS

Alfred Piccaver
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Long Sutton, Lincolnshire
Born on 5th of February 1884
Died on 23rd of September 1958

Piccaver was born in Long Sutton, but after he emigrated with his parents to the USA as a toddler he spent only a small part of his life in Britain. Piccaver was trained as a singer at New York’s Metropolitan Opera School, then went to Prague to continue his studies. He worked most often in Vienna, only spending one season at Covent Garden (1924), though he returned to London to flee the Nazis in 1937, eventually returning to Austria for the last few years of his life. He left many recordings across a wide range of operatic styles and composers, some still obtainable in digital formats today.
