Mee was very much a literary figure of his time, producing non-fiction works that often had a blatantly patriotic tone and sought to educate children to good moral effect. His most famous works were The Children’s Encyclopaedia, the series of books on England’s counties The King’s England, and A History of the World. A journalist by training he also published the Children’s Newspaper.
