Henry Martyn
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Truro, Cornwall
Born on 18th of February 1781
Died on 16th of October 1812

Senior wrangler in 1801, and elected fellow of St John’s Cambridge the following year, Martyn intended reading for the bar but instead (partly through a chance meeting, partly for urgent financial reasons) took orders and became a missionary. His work was in India and Persia, and included translation of the New Testament into Hindi, Urdu and Persian. Martyn died in Turkey while trying to return to England to recover his fever-ravaged health.
