Educated at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Made West End debut as John the Baptist in Godspell (1973). Made film debut in Nijinsky (1980). Public recognition followed television series Brideshead Revisited and the film The French Lieutenant’s Woman (1981). Married to actress Sinead Cusack.
