Born 1864. Died 1929 - Social philosopher and journalist.

Worked as an academic and a journalist. Became editor of the Sociological Review in 1903 and was political editor of Tribune (1906-07). Was the first professor of sociology appointed in a British university. Best known works include Labour Movement (1893) and Morals in Evolution (1906).
