Born 1901. Died 1983 - English nuclear engineer.
Won a scholarship to Cambridge. Supervised explosives filling stations during WWII. Constructed the world’s first large-scale commercial atomic power station at Calder Hall in Cumbria, opened in 1956. Knighted in 1951, given a life peerage in 1965.
