Attended lectures at University College London before travelling abroad. On return Paracelsus (1835) won him recognition. Wrote several dramas and collections of poems. Married Elizabeth Barrett Browning then settled in Italy. Returned to London after her death in 1861 and wrote the famous The Ring and the Book.
