Born 1810. Died 1888 - English naturalist.
Went to New Foundland in 1827 became a professional naturalist in Jamaica. Returned to Britain and wrote Manual of Marine Zoology (1855-56) and History of British Sea-anemones and Corals (1860). Best known work is Romance of Natural History (1860-62).
