First role was in 1983 in the film Scrubbers. Became well known appearing in sketches in television shows starring Harry Enfield and Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders. In 1997 won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for her role in the Nil by Mouth. Appeared as Perry in Kevin and Perry Go Large. Has since concentrated on her career as a theatre director.
