Educated at Royal Naval College at Osborne and Dartmouth. During WWI transferred to Royal Flying Corps. One of the officers responsible for Air Power policy. During WWII was Commander of 5 Group, responsible for heavy bombing against Germany industry including the Dambuster raid.
