Member of dance troupe, the Tiller Girls. Became Hammersmith Borough Councillor in 1965. Elected as MP for West Bromwich in 1973. Became first woman Speaker of the House of Commons in 1992. Retired as Speaker and MP in 2000, entered House of Lords.
